500k to make $$$
Star Wars: The Old Republic, which has been confirmed for a spring release date earlier this month, is probably one of the most anticipated MMORPGs of this year. Now Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello tells investors on a conference call yesterday that "At half a million subscribers, the game is substantially profitable".
Impressive, seeing that EA chief financial officer Scott Brown said that The Old Republic was "the largest R&D project EA has ever undertaken" earlier last year.
Riccitiello didn't specify how long it would take for half a million subscribers to make SW:TOR turn a profit, though it seems like it could happen for the highly anticipated MMO since World of Warcraft – which has 12 million subscribers as of the end of last year.
